University of Ibadan Shut Down After Students’ Protest

University of Ibadan, UI has been shut down after students protested alleged insensitivity on the part of the university management.

The management of the University of Ibadan on Monday shut the institution and directed the students to vacate the campus on or before 6 p.m.

The students had earlier taken to the streets of Ibadan in protest, alleging insensitivity on the part of the university management.

In a broadcast today, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka stated that the closure followed protest by students and forestall breakdown of peace on campus.

The Institution had earlier fixed first Semester examination for June but the examination will now commence on July 17th.

The Vice Chancellor however said that postgraduate students can continue with their lectures.

The students at a congress on Saturday passed a resolution to disrupt the forthcoming examinations if the university fails to issue it ID cards which were paid for last session and this session at the rate of 650 and 1,300 respectively.

They also asked the authorities to constitute the Students’ Welfare Board as well as allow use of cooking appliances that had been banned in the halls of residence.
