Unilorin To Embark on Students’ Exchange Programme with University of Georgia

The partnership agreement between the University of Ilorin and the University of Georgia, Atlanta, USA, has now been concretized as the two institutions are set to commence staff/students exchange programme.

The Director of African Studies Institute, Georgia University, Dr. Akinloye Ojo, disclosed this last Thursday (July 30, 2015) during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON) in his office.

The documents of the MoU were signed during the visit by the Vice-Chancellor and the visiting Georgia University don.

Dr. Ojo, who is an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature, University of Georgia, described University of Ilorin as a viable partner saying that the relationship between the two institutions has been very fruitful and result-oriented.

The Director, who later in the day delivered the Faculty of Arts Special Lecture entitled “Pedagogy of Yoruba Language in the United States of America: Retrospect, Prospects and Lessons for Nigeria”, appealed to the University management to sponsor academic staff to the forthcoming annual conference of the Institute of African Studies, University of Georgia. He noted that the University’s delegation played a significant role in the success of the 2014 edition of the conference.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Ambali, said that the University of Ilorin was keen on partnering Georgia University, adding that the arrangement would deepen the relationship between both institutions.

Prof. Ambali said that the University was favourably disposed to such collaboration in the course of advancing knowledge, adding that Unilorin would soon open its researchers’ lodge to visiting scholars.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the visiting scholar for promoting the country’s culture and values through his scholarship.
