Mr. Obafemi gave the advice last Thursday
(June 4, 2015) in his address at the special
orientation ceremony organised for the
students .

The Registrar, who warned that the
University authority would not condone
indolence, truancy and the act of keeping
bad company, also encouraged the students
to put in their best so as to join the university on the main campus in the next University matriculation.

Mr. Obafemi told the students, “I want to
advise you to work hard, face your studies,
shun cultism and all forms of anti-social
behaviour that could lead to your expulsion
even from here at the institute.

“My hope and prayer for you is that you
should be with us in the next matriculation
ceremony so that we can address you as
great Unilorites instead of ordinary great
Nigerian students we are addressing you
now”.

Also in his speech, the Director of the
School of Preliminary Studies, Prof. O. E.
Abdullahi, advised the students to remember the sons and daughters of whom they are by making sure that they face their studies squarely, saying that it is possible for all of them to transit to the main campus if they work hard.

Prof. Abdullahi warned that the University
would not hesitate to expel any student that
violates its standing rules or joins any
unregistered association on campus.

In his lecture on the occasion, the Sub-
Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Abdulraheem
Yusuf, advised the students to remain good
ambassadors of the school by ensuring that
all university rules and regulations are
strictly followed and observed.

In his lecture, entitled “Roles of Student
Affairs, Nigerian Perspective: A case Study
of University of Ilorin”, Dr. Yusuf said that
the Student Affairs Unit of the institution is
the coordinating body that is saddled with
the responsibility of protecting the interest
of students in all ramifications.

Also speaking on the occasion, the
Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government, Alhaji Usman Magaji, said that the council had been in the vanguard of ensuring a peaceful learning environment by providing the needed security and safety for lives and properties of the students.

The Chairman told the students to count
themselves lucky for securing admission
into the University of Ilorin as many of their
mates are out there without this golden
opportunity. He advised them to comport
themselves in everything they do so as to
achieve their aim of acquiring university
education.
