University of Sydney is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their Soil Organic Carbon Scholarship. It is a fully-funded scholarship for all students.

About the Scholarship

This scholarship aims to support a student who focus their research on the stability of organic carbon associated with different clay minerals and artificial soils using advanced spectroscopic studies including nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS).

Also, Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS), and synchrotron based – scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS).

Aim and Benefits of Soil Organic Carbon Scholarship

This scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum RTP rate (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Requirements for Soil Organic Carbon Scholarship 

You must:

1. Be a domestic or international student.

2. Have an unconditional offer of admission or be enrolled in a full-time  PhD at the Faculty of Science.

3. Be willing to research in the prescribed area in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences (refer to Background section).

4. Hold an honors degree (first class or second class upper) or a master’s degree in a related field with a substantial research component with a on related disciplines.

5. Have a background in in soil chemistry and experience in using spectroscopic techniques, such as FT-ICR-MS), and FTIR for analyzing soil organic matter.

6. Have Professor Balwant Singh as your primary supervisor.
