This post is suppose to be read by all student, because the system of their reading this days is not worth talking about,I guess some of them do spend a lot of time on social network. Read the news below:
NO fewer than 366 students of the
Rivers State University of Science and
Technology, Port Harcourt, have been
expelled by the management of the
institution for poor academic
performance.
The RSUST Vice Chancellor, Prof.
Barineme Fakae, who made this
announcement on Wednesday at the
33rd matriculation of the university,
explained that the affected students
could not meet the minimum academic
standard required by the institution.
He said the expelled students could not
make the Cumulative Grade Point
Average 1.00 and were withdrawn from
the university at the end of the
2013/2014 session.
Fakae also disclosed that for the
2013/2014 academic session, eight best
performing students of the university
from seven different faculties were
rewarded with one laptop computer
each, saying the reward was aimed at
encouraging healthy competition in
academics among students.
He said the institution would reward
best performing students of the
university every year and that 12,904
applicants, who scored above the
University Tertiary Matriculation
Examination cut-off mark of 180 per
cent, applied to study in RSUST.
The VC said only 3, 322 (25.74 percent)
out of the number were admitted based
on merit and the National Universities
Commission’s approved carrying
capacity.
Fakae said, “I have to reiterate that in
RSUST today, you must be good to
come in, good to stay in and good to
graduate. It is sad to announce that 366
students out of a total population of
14,948 that registered last session, who
could not make the mandatory
Cumulative Grade Point Avergae (CGPA)
of 1.00, were withdrawn from the
university at the end of last session
(2013/2014) due to academic failure.
“As you know, the commonly known
academic vice called ‘sorting’ no longer
has a home in Rivers State University of
Science and Technology due to our
strict adherence to the academic rules
and our electronic process.”
