The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nasarawa State University Chapter according to reports has embarked on an indefinite strike following non-payment of allowances by the management.

The chairman of ASUU NSUK Chapter, Dr. Theophilus Daniel-Lagi in a statement directed members to boycott academic duties until they are told otherwise and added that the strike was total, comprehensive and indefinite.

Some of the demands of the Union include general funding of the university, review of the university law to conform to the 2003 act as obtained in other public universities, ambiguous promotion guideline, tax relief for members and the component of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) that accrued since 2009, among others.

On the other hand, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mohammed Akaro-Mainoma has appealed the union to reconsider its stand in the interest of peace and the development of the education sector.
