About Maritime Academy of Nigeria:
The Maritime Academy of Nigeria is a
federally owned educational institute in
Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Originally
called the Nautical College of Nigeria, it was
established in 1979 to educate and train
shipboard officers, ratings and shore-based
management personnel. The first batch of
Cadets graduated in 1983. In 1988 the
college’s mandate was expanded to training
all levels and categories of personnel for all
facets of the Nigerian maritime industry.
Admission Procedure/Guide:
The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN),
Oron invites applications from suitably
qualified candidates for admission into the
institution for 2015/2016 academic session.
Available Programmes:
NATIONAL DIPLOMA:
a) Nautical Science (2 Years)
b) Marine Engineering (2 Years)
c) Boat/Ship Building Technology (2 Years)
d) Electrical/Electronics Engineering (2
Years)
e) Hydrography (2 Years)
f) Marine Meteorology and Oceanography (2
Years)
g) Hydrology and Coastal Resources
Management (2 Years)
h) Maritime Transport and Business Studies
(2 Years)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
[A] National Diploma [ND] in Nautical
Science/Marine Engineering/ Boat & Ship
Building Technology/Electrical Electronics
Engineering/Hydrography/Marine
Meteorology and Oceanography/
Hydrologyand Coastal Resources
Management:
Applicants must posses the Senior School
Certificate [SSC] or its equivalent with at
least FIVE CREDIt passes in subjects which
must include Mathematics, English
Language, Physics, and any two of
Geography, Technical Drawing, General
Science, and Chemistry, obtained at NOT
MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS.
[B] National Diploma [ND] In Maritime
Transport & Business Studies:
Applicants must possess at least FIVE
CREDIT passes at NOT MORE THAN TWO
SITTINGS of the Senior School Certificate
Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. The
subjects must inIudeEnglish Language,
Mathematics, Economics/Commerce and
any two of the following: Geography,
Government and Book-Keeping.
Other Requirements for admission into all National Diploma programmes include:
1. Success in the competitive Entrance
Examination
2. Success in the Oral/Written Interview
following the Entrance Examination.
3. Passing the medical and physical fitness
examinations and eye-sight test to be
conducted by the Academy’s Medical
Doctor.
Applicants must be single and remain single
throughout the duration of the programme
at the Academy arid be between the ages of
16 and 21 years for 1A (a-b) and between 16
and 25 years for 1 (A) (c), (ci), (e), (f) (g) and
(h) by the date of commencement of the
session for which they are applying for
admission. Applicants awaiting result of the
SSCE or its equivalent need not apply.
Note: Candidates are not required to bring
recommendation letters from referees.
Admission will be based strictly on:
Conformity with the prescribed age limit;
Possession of the requisite credit passes in
the relevant subjects at Senior School
Certificate level;
Medical and physical fitness; and
Performance in the competitive Entrance
Examination and subsequent written/oral
interview.
HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA:
a) Nautical Science (2 Years)
b) Marine Engineering (2 Years)
c) Maritime Transport & Business
Management (2 Years)
d) Naval Architecture (2 Years)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:
Candidates must:
Satisfy all the requirements for admission
into the National Diploma Programme in
Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, or
Naval Architecture as applicable;
possess a National Diploma in Nautical
Science, Marine Engineering or Boat & Ship
Building Technology from the Maritime
Academy of Nigeria, Oron or from a
recognised institution, with a Cumulative
Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50
(Lower Credit); and have undergone a
minimum of one year Post-ND
Apprenticeship Training or acquired
Cognate Work Experience in a relevant
establishment or organization.
HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) IN MARITIME TRANSPORT & BUSINESS MANAGEMENT:
Candidates must:
satisfy all the requirements for admission
into the National Diploma in Maritime
Transport and Business Studies Programme;
possess the National Diploma in Maritime
Transport and Business Studies from the
Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron or from
a recognized institution, with a Cumulative
Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50
(Lower Credit); and have undergone a
minimum of 12 months [One year] Post-ND
industrial attachment for cognate work
experience in a relevant establishment or
company.
Important Note: All candidates for the HND
programmes must request the schools they
attended to send the Transcripts of their
Academic Records to the Academy under
confidential cover.
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA:
a) Shipping and Transport Management (1
Year)
b) Maritime Transport Technology (1 Year)
c) Maritime Engineering (2 years)
Admission Requirement
1. PGD Shipping and Transport
Management (one year)
Applicants must possess a good Honours
Degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma
(HND) in Business or Social Science from a
recognised University or Polytechnic.
Membership of relevant Professional body
will be an added advantage.
Candidates with qualifications equivalent to
(a) above may be considered for admission
based on maturity and length of service in
the maritime industry.
2. PGD Maritime Transport Technology (one
year)
Applicants must possess a good Honours
Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND)
in the Physical Sciences or Engineering
from a recognised University or Polytechnic.
Membership of relevant Professional body
will be an added advantage.
Candidates with qualifications equivalent to
(a) above may be considered for admission
based on maturity and length of service in
the maritime industry.
3. PGD Maritime Engineering (Two Years)
Applicants must possess a good Honours
Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND)
in Engineering from a recognised University
or Polytechnic.
It Class Marine Engineering Certificate
(Foreign going).
Candidates with qualifications equivalent to
(a) above may be considered for admission
based on maturity and length of service in
the Maritime industry.
Membership of relevant professional body
will be an added advantage.
