The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its pre-HND,  Higher National Diploma (HND) and Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) programmes for the 2017/2018 academic session.

A.     PRE- HND Programme:

The management of the Academy wishes to invite all the past National Diploma Cadets of:

  1. i) Marine Meteorology and Oceanography
  2. ii) Hydrology and Fishery Science

of the Maritime Academy for a screening exercise for admission into Pre-HND in Nautical Science for the 2017/2018 academic session.

Arrival:   Sunday 8th October, 2017
Screening Exercise:         Monday – Friday (9th – 13th October, 2017)
Departure:                       Saturday, 14th October, 2017
Time:                               0900 hours (each day)
Venue:                             Administrative Block Conference Hall Maritime Academy of Nigeria P.M.B 1089, College Road, Oron, Akwa Ibom State

Requirements for the Screening Exercise:

Candidates are requested to report at the Administrative Block Conference Hall with the following:

National Diploma in:
i) (a)Marine Meteorology and Oceanography
(b)Hydrology and Fishery Science
ii)Original copy of credentials
iii) Original copy of Birth Certificate/Age Declaration.

B. HND/PGD Aptitude Test:

Candidates who applied for any of the Academy HND/PGD programmes are also invited for the Aptitude Test as follows:

  1. Arrival: Sunday 24th September, 2017
  2. Aptitude Test:                 Monday – Friday 25th – 29th September, 2017
  3. Departure: Saturday, 30th September, 2017
  4. Venue: Maritime Academy of Nigeria
    P.M.B 1089, College Road,
    Oron,
    Akwa Ibom State
  5. Time: 0900 hours (each day)

Programmes On Offer:

a)     HND          –       Nautical Science (2years)

b)     HND          –       Marine Engineering (2years)

c)     HND          –       Maritime Transport and Business Management                                        (2 years)

d)     PGD          –       Shipping and Transport Management (1year)

e)     PGD          –       Maritime Transport Technology (1 year)

f)      PGD          –       Maritime Engineering (2 years)

g)     PGD          –       Hydrographic Surveying (1 year)

Entry Requirements:

a)     HND Nautical Science/Marine Engineering:

i)      All candidates for (a-b) above must satisfy all the requirements for admission into the National Diploma programme in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering as applicable.

ii)      Possess a National Diploma in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering from Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron or from a recognised institution, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit); and

iii)     Have undergone a minimum of one year Post – ND Apprenticeship Training or acquired cognate Work Experience in a relevant establishment or organization.

b)     HND Maritime Transport and Business Management:

i)      All candidates for (c) above must satisfy all the requirements for admission into the National Diploma  in Maritime Transport and Business Studies programme.

ii)      Possess the National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Studies from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron or from a recognised institution, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit); and

iii)     Have undergone a minimum of 12 months (one year) Post – ND industrial attachment for cognate work experience in a relevant establishment or company.

c)     Post Graduate Diploma:

a) PGD Shipping and Transport Management (One Year)

i)      Candidates must possess a good honours degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business or Social Science from a recognised University or Polytechnic.

ii)      Membership of a Professional Transport Institute will be an added advantage.

iii)     Candidates with qualification equivalent to (i) above may be considered for admission based on maturity and length of service in the maritime industry.

b) PGD Maritime Transport Technology (One Year)

i)      Candidates must possess a good honours degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the Physical Sciences or Engineering programme from a  recognised University or Polytechnic.

ii)      Membership of a Professional Transport Institute will be an added advantage.

iii)     Candidates with qualification equivalent to (i) above may be considered for admission based on maturity and length of service in the maritime industry.

c) PGD Maritime Engineering (Two Years)

i)      Candidates must possess a good honours degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering  from a recognised University or Polytechnic.

ii)      1st Class Marine Engineering Certificate (Foreign going).

iii)     Candidates with qualifications equivalent to (i) above may be considered for admission based on maturity and length of service in the maritime industry.

iv)     Membership of relevant professional body will be an added advantage.

d) PGD Hydrographic Surveying (One Years)

i)      Candidates must possess a good Honours Degree (B.Sc.) or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the fields of Geo-Science, Land Surveying, Physical Science, Cartography, Nautical Science and Other relevant Environmental Science.

ii)      Membership of relevant professional body will be an added advantage.

iii)     Candidates with qualifications equivalent to (i) above may be considered for admission based on maturity and length of service in the relevant field.

iv)     Competency in English Language is essential.

v)     GIS/CAD and surveying experience is desirable

vi)     Proficiency with Computers, Office Suits and Database is also an added advantage.

IMPORTANT NOTE:        All Candidates for HND and PGD programmes must request the schools they attended to send the Transcripts of their Academic Records to the Academy under Confidential cover.  Candidate whose Academic Transcript is not received in the Academy before the close of Admission exercise shall have his/her admission forfeited.

Requirements for the Aptitude Test:

Candidates are requested to report for the aptitude test with the following:

i) Original copy of NYSC Discharge Certificate/Exemption Certificate/Exclusion Certificate.

ii) Original copy of credentials including National Diploma certificate (candidates for HND only).

iii) Original copy of Degree/HND Certificate (candidates for PGD only).

iv) Letter of one (1) year Industrial attachment (or two years IT for candidates with a PASS result).

v) Certificate of Membership with relevant professional body (candidates for PGD only)

PLEASE NOTE THAT EACH COURSE DURATION INCLUDES TRAINING ON THE MANDATORY BASIC SAFETY COURSES, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE STCW CONVENTION.

Candidates for the specialised Seamen Training Courses should note that the above courses (in content, name and requirements) are being streamlined with the provisions of the STCW Convention.  For more details on these and the Mandatory Courses, candidates or interested seafarers should contact the Academy.

Aptitude Test Fee:

Candidates are requested to pay the sum of:

1) Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000.00) only for each HND/PGD Candidate.

2) Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000.00) only for each Pre-HND Candidate.

Mode of Payment: Candidates are requested to pay through the bank or through net using the following step-by-step procedure:

Application Form Purchase Procedure:

  • Visit www.macademyoron.org
  • Click on “REGISTRATION”
  • Click on “Application Form”
  • Click on “Purchase Form”, you will be directed to the Personal Information page, enter the following information
  • Fill in the details correctly
  • Select Program: you will need to select National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Miscellaneous (For Post JAMB UTME Aptitude Test)
  • Password (You will use this password to login):
  • Confirm Password, and then Click “Continue”
  • Select Course of choice
  • Click “Pay Via Remita”, you will be redirected to the “Remita Invoice Page”,
  • Choose the method of payment e.g Internet Banking, ATM Card, Bank Branch
  • If Bank Branch: copy the RRR code and take it to any bank to make payment.
  • If ATM Card, enter your card details; Card Number, Expiry Date, cvv and pin.
  • You will be directed to a page that displays your Examination Number, Transaction ID, RRR, Transaction Status and Transaction Time.
  • Click on “Click here to Log in” you will be directed to the log in page
  • Enter your Exam number and your password to login, you will be directed to the “Complete Registration Page”
  • Complete your registration by correctly filling in your Application Data, Next of  Kin,  Referee.
  • Click “Upload O’level” ; Add all O’level subjects by clicking the add button.
  • After adding O’level subjects, click on “Upload Passport”
  • Upload your passport and click the “upload passport” button
  • If you are applying for HND or PGD programs, upload your certificate
  • And then Click “Print Photocard” (You will need this for the Entrance/Interview)
