The National Universities Commission ( NUC) has given approval to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education to commence Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele who disclosed this during an emergency Senate Meeting, said that the Commission in principle granted the university request for expansion and restructuring of programmes.

He observed that since the establishment of the university, concentration had only been on developing Education which is one aspect of the core mandate of the university with little or no attention paid to the non- education based related disciplines as provided by the Law and appropriate for a university of the highest standing.

To this end, forms are already on sale at the Admission’s Office at the Rumuolumeni main campus for admission into a one year Basic Studies Programme for the 2016/2017 academic session. Upon completion of the programme, qualified candidates would be admitted as year one Students into the B.A, B.Sc, B.Tech. B.Agric, B.Ed, programmes of the university.

Professor Ndimele informed members of Senate that remedial work at the Students Hostels in all the campuses would soon be completed for Students to move in and that the Department of Home Economics and Hotel Management have been commissioned to design with the university logo and colours bed sheets, pillow cases, curtains, window blinds, towels, Buckets etc that the Students would move into the renovated hostels with. The Home Economics and Hotel Management department is also to run a decent and befitting Restaurant for Staff.

In addition to all these, he said that the Paint Factory building project has started along with the Poultry, Fisheries, Mushroom etc pilot scheme farming geared towards internal revenue generation under Edu Consult, the registered Company of the university.
The Chief Executive implored the Consultancy Unit to liaise with multinationals and other oil companies and corporate bodies to fund research as external revenue generation efforts for the university.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed displeasure with the rumored school fees increase and wondered where the Students got such information from especially as the Senate never discussed school fees increase at the last meeting.

With the unresolved issue of non payment of electricity bills by the university as alleged by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria ( PHCN), Professor Ndimele regretted that some Staff could think of stealing diesel, a move capable of putting the university in total darkness. He condemned the deliberate act of sabotage by the perpetrators and warned staff to desist from such negative tendencies as it would no longer be condoned.
