Google Africa Hands Over Campus Wide Wireless Cloud Infrastructure to EKSC VC Prof. Oladipo Aina
Globally respected Google Company has handed over a Campus wide Broadband Wireless Cloud Infrastructure with fibre optics backbone deployed to the Ekiti State University. The handing over to the Management of the institution was done at a ceremony in the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday, 10th August, 2015.
At the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Oladipo Aina commended the technical experts from Google Africa who had been working in Ekiti State University for the Past two years for their professionalism and dedication to work. Professor Aina said that his vision to make EKSU a first class institution in the 21st Century required that the institution should be established on the Digital High way.
This he said has been achieved by the collaboration with Google Africa incorporated. The EKSU Vice-Chancellor said his administration has transformed the ICT Infrastructure in EKSU which enabled the University conduct the last Computer-based Post UTME test for candidates seeking admission into the University within a week. He thanked the leader from Google, Mr Bayo Olotu who supervised the two-year work for his inspiration and energy.
Earlier the Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology, EKSU, Professor Felix Aderibigbe informed the Vice-Chancellor that the collaboration with Google Africa has provided thirteen Points of Distribution (PODs) linked by fibre optics cable, Inverter power backup for all 13 PoDs , 10mni and 105ghz Radio for internet connectivity backup , Billing Server and Network Monitoring System, Mickrotic Router as well as the deployment and Training on Google Apps for Education and Bandwith Support.
Also, Google Africa has helped in maintenance and repairs on the network. The leader of the Google Africa team, Mr. Bayo olotu said that Google was in Africa to support organisations to achieve access, relevance and sustainability. Mr. Olotu promised more assistance in future.
