Authorities of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has shut down the institution following the students violent protest.

According to a press statement issued by the management, students are expected to vacate the school before 6PM on Thursday and proceed on a week mid-semester break.

During the protest, which turned violent, two students and three policemen  were injured when a detachment of police personnel deployed to the institution to restore normalcy clashed with the students.

The protest is reported to be as a result of an attack by armed robbers on Adejoke Hostel in Isolu community in the early hours of Wednesday. The hostel is some distance away from the school.

It was gathered that the incident infuriated the students who claimed they had been left to their fate by the institution’s management.

The students helped by people suspected to be street urchins set four vehicles ablaze and destroyed properties.

The church founded by the institution Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, which is located few metres away from the Ogun State police command headquarters, was not spared by the rampaging students.

 

They destroyed the church windows and doors.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said that no fewer than 34 people have been arrested in connection with the incident and that investigation into it would commenced in earnest.
