CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship Application Update – 2022

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship. It is a fully-funded scholarship for all students.

About Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS)

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) was created to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and to brand Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.

VCS supports students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health.

Aim and Benefits of CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship

The scholarship is valued at $50,000 per year per awardee for three years during doctoral studies and considers three equally weighted selection criteria: Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership.

Requirements for CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship 

The Selection Criteria for the Government of Canada Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are based on:

1. Academic Excellence 
2. Research Potential
3. Leadership (potential and demonstrated ability)

Citizenship:

1. Canadian citizens 
2. Permanent residents of Canada
3. Foreign citizens

Areas of Research:

1. Health research 
2. Natural sciences and/or engineering research
3. Social sciences and humanities research

Interview Date and Process for CGS Postdoctoral Scholarship

Application Timelines:

1. July–November 2022: Applicants seek a nominating institution, and prepare and submit an application package. 
2. Internal Deadline (varies): Deadline to submit an application to the nominating institution.
3. November 2, 2022 (20:00 EST): Deadline for institutions to submit nominations to the Vanier CGS program.
4. November 2022–March 2023: Review and evaluation of nominations.
5. Early April 2023: Anticipated notification of results. Nominees will be notified by email when the results are available on ResearchNet.
6. May 1, 2023, September 1, 2023, or January 1, 2024: Payments begin.
