Scholarship Description:
An alternative solution for low carbon, long range vehicles is represented by internal combustion engines fuelled with hydrogen, which produce carbon-free emissions. However, hydrogen suffers several constraints related to storage and distribution. An attractive solution is presented by the usage of ammonia to store hydrogen, offering a practical, carbon-free method to arbitrage energy. If the energy (and raw materials) used to synthesise the ammonia come from renewable sources, the entire cycle can be made completely carbon-free. Ammonia is already produced and transported in considerable volumes, and is therefore a practical and scalable fuel.
Duration of award(s):
Studentship is awarded for 4 years of study.
What does it cover? This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
